The Pillow Academy girls and boys basketball teams both picked up wins on the road Thursday night at East Rankin Academy.
The Lady Mustangs cruised to a 70-47 triumph over the Lady Patriots as Elise Howard tallied 23 points, dished out six assists, had five rebounds and made three steals.
Pillow trailed 20-14 after one and took a 32-31 lead at the half. A 22-10 run in the third game them a 54-41 lead after the third.
Avery Howard tacked on 15 points, seven steals, three rebounds and three assists for PA (3-2), and Alanna Hodo had 14 points, four steals, three boards and two assists. Karle Aldridge had five points, five boards, two steals and blocked two shots.
In the varsity boys game, Pillow won 44-39 to move to 1-2 on the season. The Mustangs 19-15 at the half and 29-26 after the third, but an 18-8 scoring edge in the fourth sealed the win.
Ryan Nobles led Pillow with 15 points. Charlie Robbins had nine points, four assists and three rebounds, and John Heston Powers had eight points and four boards.
In the junior varsity girls game, Pillow won 33-29 as Jane Kimmel Buford had 11 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Sara Michael Lary had nine points, three rebounds and two assists, and Macy Lamb had five points and six rebounds. Izzy Hodges tacked on four points, five rebounds and three assists.
In the junior varsity boys game, Pillow claimed a 47-31 win as Aiden Valente had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Trace Harrell had 16 points, five assists and three rebounds, and Charlie Dunn had 10 points and eight boards.
Pillow plays at Simpson Academy Monday.
-Leflore County: The Tigers upped their record to 2-3 with a 61-49 win over visiting South Delta Thursday night.
Leflore led 17-8 after one, 25-22 at the half and 44-29 after the third frame.
Tavion Dean led the way with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Ladarian Pleasant had 11 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, and Dezmond Ray had 10 points, four assists and three boards. Sanford Franklin had nine points and seven rebounds, and Keveunte Parker had five points and 11 rebounds.
In the girls game, South Delta won 50-23 as it led 23-9 at the half.
Jameshia Kyles had 16 points, three rebounds and two assists, and Antionette Holston had five points and nine boards for Leflore (0-5). Jakiaya Thomas had 13 rebounds.
Leflore hosts Simmons Nov. 29.
-Greenwood High: The trip to Starkville Thursday night was a long one there and back as the host team took a pair of games from their visitors.
In the boys game, the Yellow Jackets prevailed 75-33 as they led 19-7 after one, 36-23 at the half and 59-31 after the third period.
Markell Johnson led GHS (4-1) with 13 points and four rebounds. Joseph Warren had seven points and two boards, and James Holmes had seven points and five rebounds.
In the girls game, Starkville raced out to a 36-0 lead after the first quarter en route to an 83-12 win. Amiya Jones had five points and seven rebounds for GHS (2-3), and Ya’Kyla Stasher tacked on five points and two boards.
Greenwood entertains Amanda Elzy Saturday at 1 p.m. and hosts Ruleville Tuesday at 6 p.m.
-J.Z. George: The Jaguars won their second straight to open the season as they beat visiting Ethel 58-53 Thursday night.
Ethel led 25-19 at the half, but J.Z. George outscored the Tigers 39-28 in the second half.
BJ Green had 20 points, and KD Wiley tacked on 18 for the Jags. Keiyhaun Wilks had six points.
In the girls game, the Lady Jags (0-5) fell 61-9 as Ka’Mya Williams led the way with six points.
J.Z. George, which played at French Camp Friday, is at Riverside Nov. 28.
