A Day Without Electricity
A Day Without Electricity Entergy had a planned all day outage for our neighborhood so they could do an overhaul of the substation. They cut the power off at 7:52 AM and turned it back on at 5:40 PM. I had the generators and power banks ready but a day with no electricity is a challenge. It took 3 of the long, orange extension cords to power the fridge, freezer, tv, laptop, tablet, and coffee pot. About halfway through the day the Wen generator developed some type of mechanical problem and shut down. I got it started again and then it shut down again. After that I lowered the usage and moved everything to the other generator for the rest of the day. While not a prepper, being in a frequent tornado, hurricane, and ice storm zone has prompted me to have at least a minimal amount of preparation. It was eerie when with no postal mail and no stores or gas stations open on a Saturday. --- Robert W. Neill, Jr. is a sixth-generation farm and land owner and a licensed real estate broker.
