Shad White's Report On The Brain Drain
State Auditor Shad White's report on the brain drain is a must read which gives insight about the 50% of college graduates who leave Mississippi within 3 years and where those who remain decide to live within the state. 50% leave for Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, and so on but those who remain in the state are concentrating in just 10 counties of the state. 67% of the analyzed public university graduates live in Hinds, Harrison, Lee, Forrest, Rankin, Madison, DeSoto, Oktibbeha, Lafayette, and Lauderdale counties. The lack of an educated and trained labor pool makes it difficult for the other 72 counties to stop their population decline and attract jobs.
