Greenwood Utilities has promoted Eric Thompson to vice president of electric operations.
Thompson
Thompson, 48, has worked for the publicly owned utility company since 1997. He replaces Mike Nix, who retired earlier this month.
Thompson is certified in substation maintenance, signal control and electrical safe work practices as well as lineworker apprenticeships and leadership management. “I am honored and prepared to enter this next step with a company like Greenwood Utilities,” he said.
In a statement, Brian Finnegan, CEO of Greenwood Utilities, said, “Thompson brings extensive experience in electric operations to his position. He has come through the ranks from an apprentice lineman to a journeyman lineman to working crew leader and, from there, senior crew leader.
“The energy and enthusiasm that Thompson has continued to use while leading his crew in a safe manner have been an asset to Greenwood Utilities,” Finnegan said. “His background and extensive training give him an overall understanding and ability to ensure the availability and reliability of the electric distribution system for the delivery of electric service to the customers of Greenwood Utilities.”
Thompson was born in Greenwood and grew up in Sidon. When he is not working, he enjoys hunting, fishing and working in his yard.
His wife of more than 24 years, Suzanne Thompson, is the dean of career-technical and adult education at Mississippi Delta Community College. They have two sons: Patrick, 23, and Pacey, 18. Patrick Thompson works for Dunn Farms, and Pacey Thompson will be taking classes at Holmes Community College this fall as he pursues a degree in building construction science at Mississippi State University.
