Some inmates who pick up trash for the Greenwood Public Works Department have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Mayor Carolyn McAdams confirmed Tuesday that “some inmates from the crew of five” involved with trash collection throughout the city have been sent back to the Community Work Center to quarantine for 14 days before they are allowed to return.
The exact number of employees testing positive was unknown.
McAdams also confirmed that three employees — two who tested positive and another who was quarantined because a household member tested positive — have returned to the Public Works Department.
McAdams said operations will not be affected: “We will make do with less people.”
Public Works employees are each instructed to wear a mask throughout the day and, when possible, practice social distancing.
One employee at City Hall has been quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19, but the other employee who works in that department was socially distanced from that person and has not shown symptoms, McAdams said.
