A Greenwood man has been charged in connection with a break-in at Iola’s restaurant in which some frozen food and money were taken.
Greenwood police arrested Howard Hayes, 38, 808 Cotton St., Monday night.
Hayes was charged Tuesday.
Two men driving by the scene reported to officers that they saw a man leave Iola’s with a “big black bag,” walk around to the back of the restaurant and place the bag in a trash bin.
One officer recognized the description as that of a man she had seen on her way to the scene. He was later spotted along Pearl Street, and officers arrested him at Young and Short streets.
Iola McDonald, the owner of the restaurant, told officers that the front lock of the door had been broken and the door was closed with a wire hanger.
A pool table was damaged, and an unknown amount of quarters were taken from the table. A counterfeit $20 bill also was taken.
Frozen meat and fries were later recovered from the trash bin.
Officers also located a pair of gloves, a hammer, and the coin slot portion of the pool table near Iola’s.
