A man with a bullet lodged in his neck was found at the intersection of Viking Road and Moore Street Sunday night, authorities said.
William “Bill” Walter, 59, 1555 County Road 525, had been shot through the shoulder, and a .22 caliber bullet was lodged in his neck, Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell said.
A nearby resident found him outside and called the police.
Purnell said four suspects were held pending investigation of the shooting but a motive had not yet been established. He said the suspects were arrested shortly after Walter was found and they had Tennessee tags on their vehicle.
Walter was transported to the Greenwood Leflore Hospital and later transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was under anesthesia this morning and could not speak with officers.
Purnell said the investigation would continue when detectives could speak with Walter. The chief said he would be sending another officer to Jackson to see if Walter would be able to give any information.
Purnell said some of the suspects had been released pending further investigation, but at least one would be held for a prior felony arrest.
