A pedestrian remained at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson Tuesday after being struck by a car on Humphrey Highway.
A 1996 Nissan Altima driven by Jofefa Shields, 21, of Greenwood hit Ricky Ferguson, 48, also of Greenwood, Monday night, according to Highway Patrolman Tony Dunn.
The Highway Patrol received the call at 8:20 p.m.
Ferguson was crossing the street after visiting the Triple Stop convenience store near the intersection of Humphrey Highway and Meadowbrook Road, Dunn said. He was knocked into the far right lane.
An ambulance initially took Ferguson to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, and he was airlifted from there to UMC.
A hospital spokesperson said Ferguson was still in patient overflow waiting to be admitted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. No information on his status was available this morning.
Dunn said Ferguson suffered injuries to both legs, but the severity wasn’t known. Neither Shields nor a passenger was hurt.
The wreck remains under investigation, but Dunn said it appears to have been an accident.
