The victim of a shooting Monday afternoon near Crosstown Grocery on Main Street was in stable condition this morning.
Michael Darby was shot four times Monday afternoon. He was struck twice in the stomach and once in the upper chest, and one shot grazed his neck, said Huntley Nevels, deputy chief of police.
Nevels said Darby was still in Greenwood Leflore Hospital and no one had been charged.
“Hopefully we are going to be able to shed some light on this situation, but right now the case is still under investigation,” Nevels said.
After being shot, Darby went into the Crosstown Grocery, where police and an ambulance responded. Emergency crews took Darby to the hospital.
A witness told police the person who fired the shots ran across the street from Crosstown Grocery.
Darby appeared to be conscious as he was lifted into the ambulance. He was taken to the hospital at about 2:30 p.m.
Detectives were investigating an area a few yards behind the store Monday after the shooting.
