Les Honky More Tonkies, a Nashville-based band, will perform Saturday for Main Street Greenwood’s Downtown Concert Series.
Jon Boat and Trollin’ Motors will open the free concert series at 6 p.m. on Howard Street.
Joie Todd, the drummer of Les Honky More Tonkies, is working on set design with the crew from “The Help,” currently being filmed in Greenwood. He said he was excited for his bandmates to join him in Greenwood.
“I’ve been having a really good time in Greenwood,” Todd said. “The people have been friendly, and we’ve enjoyed exploring all the different things to do here.”
Todd said he and the rest of the crew have been welcomed into the city and he has enjoyed visiting several of the bars, restaurants and downtown shops.
Andy Hackleman, who schedules music for Main Street events, said he has played music with Todd and is glad to see his band come down.
“They are really popular in the underground Nashville music scene,” Hackleman said. “I think it’s going to be a good show.”
Hackleman said Todd was the “the kind of guy that comes here and is instantly everyone’s friend.” Todd has been playing with other local musicians during his stay as well.
Todd said he was looking forward to playing for the people he has met in the community and the other cast members.
Melissa Tribble, director of Main Street Greenwood, said the connection to “The Help” could be good for the event.
“We hope the crew will come down and attend our event,” Tribble said. “This is a good way to show off our downtown area and some of our downtown activities.”
Todd said he and his bandmates are excited to play again after a brief hiatus while he has been working with the movie. The band is also midway through recording a new album in Atlanta.
Les Honky More Tonkies is Southern roots rock group that blends elements of classic rock and country music.
Todd compares the music to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and said that the band is “just good rock and roll” with something for everyone.
The concert will be held in conjunction with the 300 Oaks Race which will take place Saturday at 8 a.m.
