GREENVILLE — A new nonprofit consumer assistance agency, Health Help Mississippi, will hold a grand opening and ribbon-cutting in Greenville at 2 p.m. Friday.
Health Help Mississippi assists people who are attempting to obtain coverage from Medicaid, Medicare or the Children’s Health Insurance Program as well as pre-existing condition coverage and private insurance.
The Greenville office, located at 239 Main St., covers Leflore, Carroll, Holmes, Washington, Bolivar, Quitman, Coahoma, Sunflower, Sharkey, Issaquena, Yazoo, Humphreys and Tallahatchie counties.
“We’re here to serve the community,” said Marcus Davenport, Health Help Mississippi’s regional program manager.
“As we know there are many women, men, seniors and children with no health insurance,” said Janeshia Stewart, outreach coordinator with Health Help Mississippi, “that is where our program comes into play. We assist the public in knowing their options and if they qualify in applying.”
Health Help Mississippi is funded through the Community Exchange Development Program of the state Department of Insurance.
“The Department looks forward to working with Health Help Mississippi and through this partnership hopes to help increase access to health insurance for all Mississippians,” said state Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney in a prepared statement.
Health Help Mississippi’s statewide toll-free number is 1-877-314-3843, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The agency can also be contacted online at www.healthhelpms.org.
