A Greenwood man was fatally stabbed this afternoon in North Greenwood following an apparent domestic dispute, according to the Greenwood Police Department.
The stabbing took place outside 6 Walnut Circle around noon.
Greenwood Deputy Police Chief Huntley Nevels said the victim was identified as Johnny Howard Garrett, 47, who lived at the 6 Walnut Circle.
Garret was declared dead on arrival at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, according to Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders.
Garrett’s death is the homicide victim in this year.

Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell said the stabbing stemmed from domestic dispute between Garrett and his one-time, live-in girlfriend, Tammy Leverett.
In the dispute, Garrett is alleged to have stabbed Leverett multiple times.
Leverett was flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Purnell said Garrett was attacked by a group of people who were trying to pull him off Leverett.
Garrett “took a blow from a iron pipe” and then was stabbed repeatedly with the knife he allegedly used on Leverett, the chief said.
“Right now, we’re trying to get information,” Purnell said.
The chief said the killing of Garrett appeared to be a justifiable homicide.
“We’ll take it to the grand jury and let them decide,” he said.
