Mississippi Valley State University will host a video viewing of a movie about the university’s founding president on Friday.
“The First: The Life Story of James Herbert White and the Development of Mississippi Valley State University” will be screened at the Sutton Auditorium at 11 a.m.
The screening is part of the Founder’s Day activities on Valley’s campus as the university celebrates its 60th anniversary.
The movie was produced by Chip and Butch Malone, the grandchildren of White.
It is based on “Up From a Cotton Patch,” White’s memoirs, which were finished by his daughter, Ruth W. Malone, and Dr. W.A. Butts.
The makers of the video were inspired to produce it after the passing of Ruth Malone.
In a letter distributed with some copies of the film, Butch Malone said the story was updated with more information, pictures and video.
“We are quite confident that despite your knowledge of our grandfather’s ‘Cotton Patch’ story, you might just pick up a new thing or two about his story that you did not previously know,” Malone wrote.
The video presentation is a collection of photographs and videos coupled with narration in a documentary format.
