An early morning fire destroyed a home at 304 Second St. in Greenwood today.
Today was the second time in as many days that firefighters had been called to the house.
The home belonged to Zinnie Miller, who recently had a stroke and was placed in a nursing home, said her daughter, Victoria Rosenthal.
“This is really hard, especially since she’s been sick,” Rosenthal said. “I don’t think we can even tell her about this.”
She said the next-door neighbor called and told her the home was engulfed in flames at about 5:20 a.m.
“We are waiting on the inspector to come down and maybe give us an idea of what happened,” Rosenthal said.
She said a fire had started in the back of the home Wednesday night, but she was not sure if it was related.
Greenwood Fire Chief Larry Griggs said someone was living in the house at the time of the first fire, which might have been caused by a space heater that had been left on.
This morning’s fire wasn’t likely related to the earlier one, he said.
“You don’t have a house rekindle almost two days later,” Griggs said.
Fire Marshal Victor Stokes was on the scene today trying to determine the cause of the most recent blaze.
