A young man is a step closer to finalizing the big plans he has for an Itta Bena car show.
The Leflore County Board of Supervisors gave Walter Parker Jr., 23, permission to use a park in Itta Bena for the Itta Bena Second Annual Car Show Fest on Sept. 25 from noon to 7 p.m.
Parker, son of Itta Bena Mayor Walter Parker, said the show will be family friendly and free to the public.
He compared it to Greenwood’s Stars and Stripes in the Park. It will feature not only the cars but also live entertainment, inflatables for children and vendors, he said.
Parker said he is still seeking more performers, vendors and participants.
“I also plan on working with fraternities and sororities from Mississippi Valley State to come in and do a couple of step shows and stuff like that,” Parker told the supervisors.
He said he was taking every measure to ensure that the event was fun and safe.
“I’m willing to work with the county’s sheriff’s department along with the Itta Bena Police Department in order to ensure the park is secure, along with the cars registered in the show and the crowd that we are expecting,” Parker said.
He said there would be no car races at the event.
Parker said several companies are reviewing the event for possible sponsorship, including Budweiser, Pepsi, Burger King, Crunk Energy Drink and Coca-Cola.
WGNL will conduct a live radio broadcast from the event.
The supervisors told him that his next step would be to seek the approval of the Itta Bena Board of Aldermen.
