The families of violent crime victims and others in the community are invited to celebrate the birthday of Cornelius Banks with a balloon release Saturday at Whittington Park.
Banks, 21, died of a gunshot wound on Nov. 8 near McLaurin Park.
His mother, Nancy Banks, is sponsoring the balloon release. It will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own balloons.
“Come out and release yours with ours. Luv U all and may God continue to bless you,” Nancy Banks wrote on a flier.
Banks was a 2009 graduate of Greenwood High School, where he ran track and played basketball.
Four men have been charged in his death.
