Another person has been arrested in connection with a May 11 incident in which gunfire was exchanged as two vehicles traveled on U.S. 82.
Marvin Deron Reedy, 27, 303 Walker St., was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and three counts of drive-by shooting. Reedy turned himself in to the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday afternoon.
“We had issued warrants for Reedy’s arrest,” Police Chief Henry Purnell said. “He was already awaiting sentencing on other charges as well.”
Purnell said officers were able to identify the vehicles involved in the shooting when a complainant reported it and followed them.
Andre Irby, 25, 3850 Miller Ave., Jackson, and James Douglas, 40, and Tamal Douglas, 29, both of 750 Green Road, Bentonia, were arrested the day of the shooting.
They were reported by the Commonwealth last Friday to be arrested in connection with a gas station robbery. It is is unclear if the initial arrest was mistakenly connected to the gas station robbery, or if the three men were involved in both incidents.
Chief Purnell could not be reached late this morning for clarification.
Reedy was in the same vehicle as Edwin Brewer, 24, who was arrested Sunday on other charges. Brewer was also charged with possession of marijuana, crack cocaine and disorderly conduct.
“This was probably drug-related,” Purnell said. “We are trying to stay on top of these things and bring in the people that are doing this.”
When the passengers of the first vehicle were arrested, a .38 caliber pistol was found in the vehicle and a 9mm pistol was recovered after it was discarded along the roadside.
The first vehicle was stopped on U.S. 49, but the vehicle with Brewer and Reedy went the other direction and was not immediately located.
