What started as an old friend asking for a drink of water ended with armed robbery, according to Greenwood police.
Derrick Lacy, 24, 700 E. Martin Luther King Drive, remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning facing an armed robbery charge and $20,000 bond, Police Chief Henry Purnell said.
The chief said the robbery took place on Aug. 15 in an apartment in the 1600 block of Main Street.
Lacy knocked on the door of the apartment and asked his friend if he could get a glass of water from the kitchen, Purnell said.
The resident, who had known Lacy in school, let him in and resumed playing his Xbox 360 video game, Purnell said.
Lacy, according to the affidavit, came out of the kitchen armed with a silver-plated pistol and “advised the resident he didn’t want any water; he wanted his money,” the chief said.
Lacy is accused of taking $320 from the resident’s pants pocket as well as a pair of red-and-white “Air Force One” shoes, a St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap and two Xbox 360 games, Purnell said.
The chief said Lacy also took the man’s keys and vowed to come back if he went to police.
Lacy’s threat didn’t stop him from filing a police report and fully identifying the man who he said robbed him, the chief said.
Lacy was picked up over the weekend, Purnell said.
