The Leflore County chapter of Mission Mississippi is planning a prayer gathering Saturday that the Rev. Terry Williams hopes will be a display of hope and love.

“As people of God, we want to bring about unity and healing,” said Williams. “Our goal is to do that with one voice and one heart.”
Williams, pastor at Walden Chapel United Methodist Church and Georgeville United Methodist Church, and Philip Barbour, a parishioner of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, are the new co-chairs of the Leflore County chapter. They are replacing the Rev. Calvin Collins and the Rev. Peter Gray.
The gathering will start at 9 a.m. near the pavilion at Rail Spike Park. As a sign of unity, Mission Mississippi is organizing similar gatherings at other locations statewide. These also will be held Saturday morning.
Mission Mississippi is a religious organization that hopes to “bring people together to build relationships across racial lines so they can work together to better their communities,” according to its website.
Williams said he encourages participants to wear masks, use hand sanitizer and practice social distancing. Everyone is invited to participate.
