A Greenwood man was charged with the Tuesday afternoon rape of a local woman.
Anthony Kelly, 29, of 611 W. Washington St., remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.
Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore said the department responded to a report of a female being assaulted. After officers arrived, the woman said she also had been raped and gave them a detailed description of her attacker, the chief said.
The victim was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where she was treated and released.
A rape kit was administered to the victim at the hospital, and “it was determined that she definitely was assaulted,” Moore said.
The victim later identified Kelly to the police. Kelly’s bond has been set at $250,000.
The Commonwealth does not identify the victims of alleged sexual assault without their consent.
