There will soon be a new tenant in the Leflore County business incubator building.
At the county Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday night, the board read a letter from Shelley Walker, the CEO of the incubator’s anchor tenant, Delta Lodging Group, about the newest business looking to rent space in the 23,000-square-foot building that sits across from Mississippi Valley State University on U.S. 82 in Itta Bena.
A contract with 546 Firearms LLC that allows it to move into the building was approved unanimously during the meeting.
The Itta Bena business “concentrates on training and educating gun owners on proper use of legal firearms,” Walker wrote.
“His educational intentions will result in gun safety and proper certification.”
Eric Mitchell, District 4 supervisor, recommended Bobby Giachelli, the manager of the business. Mitchell said he has been in talks with Giachelli for some time to work out the logistics. Mitchell then made the motion.
The business will be there for at least 18 months.
Since last March, the Delta Lodging Group, a hotel and motel corporation, has been the main occupant of the incubator, which is intended to help foster new small companies. Currently, the only other business there is a construction company.
Since the incubator opened in 2006, the building has had a rough history characterized by low occupancy and rent-payment problems. But both Shelley and Angela Curry, the executive director of the Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Economic Development Foundation, have previously said that they have high hopes for its future.
According to the contract, 546 Firearms LLC is set to move in Saturday.
