NATIONAL SUMMARY
Showers and thunderstorms will erupt along portions of the
Gulf Coast tomorrow. Thunderstorms will primarily be
confined to the afternoon hours from the Tennessee Valley to
the Northeast. However, much of coastal New England is
expected to be cool and dry. Farther west, strong to severe
thunderstorms will occur in the afternoon in eastern South
Dakota, eastern Nebraska, much of Minnesota and northwestern
Iowa. The storms will be capable of producing flash flooding
and damaging winds. There will even be a risk of an isolated
tornado, especially in northern and central Minnesota.
Meanwhile, Ida will move into the Gulf of Mexico and is
expected to become a major hurricane before striking the
Gulf Coast of the United States by Sunday night or Monday
morning.
