Regarding the comments in “My Two Cents” about Lusco’s:
Whether or not Booker Wright could read or write is immaterial.
At that time, Lusco’s did not use written menus. The waiters, be it Booker or Ben or whoever, recited the menu. It was one of the joys of eating at Lusco’s.
