The Tallahatchie River bridge, named the Ashwood Bridge when it was opened in 1954, spans the river between Grand Boulevard and Money Road in Greenwood. It replaced an old metal bridge, so there's no doubt there was a bridge there when singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry was living in Greenwood as a girl. Almost 60 years have passed since folks started humming along to Bobbie Gentry’s 1967 smash hit song, “Ode to Billie Joe,” and people today not only still know bits and pieces of the lyrics, they continue to talk about them.
