3 qualify to run for Ward 6 council seat

Three candidates have qualified to run for the vacant Ward 6 seat on the Greenwood City Council.
Maggie Ellis-Archie, Brittany Gray and Dorothy Randle have qualified to seek the seat made vacant by the Jan. 2 death of Councilwoman Dorothy Glenn.

City recycling director chosen for state board

Darwin Greene, director of recycling for the city of Greenwood, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Mississippi Recycling Coalition.

Services for Yasheca Shatesha Hill of Minter City will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Green Grove Church of Faith.
Ms. Hill, 46, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025, at her home.
She was a cashier.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
