Greenwood assistant chief to retire Nov. 1

Clifton King, assistant chief of the Greenwood Police Department, will be retiring at the end of this month, Mayor Kenderick Cox announced Tuesday afternoon during the Greenwood City Council meeting.
Cox said the retirement will take effect on Nov. 1, and the announcement took the mayor by surprise.

Itta Bena native returns to help her hometown

A volunteer at Itta Bena City Hall has returned to her roots, looking to grow her hometown and the state of Mississippi.
Jasmine Murphy, a 29-year-old Itta Bena native, has worked as a litigation paralegal for seven years.

GHS cruises to 47-0 win

Greenwood High School kicked off the 2025 season with a bang as the Bulldogs cruised to a 47-0 win over visiting Ruleville Central High School Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.
Junior quarterback Javion Meeks threw for four touchdowns, and senior running back Jawuan Gideon ran for two scores for Greenwood.

Brown, Pope headed to runoff in Senate race
