Leflore claws way to win at Coahoma County

Leflore County got out of Clarksdale with a hard-fought 22-12 win over the Red Panthers of Coahoma County High School Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers scored twice in the second period for a 14-0 lead at the break.

Chester Farmer Ferguson

Services for Chester Farmer Ferguson of Sidon will be at noon Saturday at Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Ferguson, 61, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, at his home.
He worked for the city of Greenwood’s street division for 23 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Webster’s Food and Drink will reopen under new ownership.
Brothers Ben Cox and Caleb Cox, owners of By the Bridge Bistro LLC, recently completed the purchase of the longtime Greenwood dining institution.

With the loss of another Greenwood restaurant, those involved in a partnership with a consulting firm hope to change a trend that has included several closures in recent years.
The Bread and Butter Shoppe, a specialty restaurant on Howard Street, closed its doors this week after four years of business.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
