Services for John LaKeatha Ranell Phillips of Houston, Texas, will be at noon Sunday at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Phillips, 47, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, in Houston.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Century Funeral Home.
The Rev. Jessie Sawyer will officiate at the services.

Tigers pounce on Vardaman, 44-8

Leflore County pounced early on the Vardaman Rams on its way to a 44-8 win in the opening round of the North 1A playoffs in Itta Bena.
A late fourth quarter injury from Vardaman’s Reed Davis, however, dampened any celebratory mood at Marcellus Singleton Stadium as an ambulance was called to the field.

Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District: Chronic absentee rate: 26.1%

Almost 1,000 students in the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District missed school for excused and unexcused reasons during the 2024-25 school year, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.
The MDE tracks chronic absenteeism in every public school in the state and recently released its figures for last year.

District governor: Rotary Club must tout its service

A Rotary Club district governor says the best way to attract more members is to emphasize the organization’s commitment to service.
Richard Butts, the district governor for District 6820, which includes Greenwood’s club, addressed the club Wednesday about how to get current members involved and how to attract new members.
