Viking Half Marathon And 5K: New view for runners

As of Friday morning, there were 131 participants signed up to test their mettle in the Viking Half Marathon and 5K on March 22.
But for this year’s race, the 14th annual edition, the routes have been altered to freshen things up and give the runners a better experience.

Job fair will be held Thursday

Job seekers are encouraged to attend the Greenwood-Leflore Job Fair Thursday, which will feature employment opportunities with more than 30 local employers.
The job fair, sponsored by the Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Economic Development Foundation, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Andrew McQueen Jr. Civic Center.

Officers involved in shooting incident are honored

Members of the Greenwood Police Department involved in a shooting incident on Dec. 22 were honored with plaques during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
A total of six officers received plaques, including three who were wounded during the incident, after a person facing a mental health condition allegedly fired an assault rifle.

Alex Holeman, an employee at Fincher’s Inc., begins painting on a wooden covering for the missing window at Fincher’s Inc. The window was broken when an unknown male suspect used a cinder block to break into the store early Saturday morning. Downtown business burglarized

Jessica Pickens received texts Saturday morning with news that every business owner fears.
Fincher’s Inc. had been burglarized.
Pickens said she arrived at the store around 7:30 a.m. that morning and found police were already on the scene. Her husband, Christopher, was already going through the store’s security footage.
