McDaniel back to teach game he loves

Brady McDaniel has returned home to Greenwood to teach the game of tennis and hopefully grow it into an even bigger sport.
McDaniel played at Pillow Academy from the sixth through 12th grade. He won five individual state championships in singles and was part of four team championships with the Mustangs.

Itta Bena native Catherine Hawkins says her outgoing personality shines through in a newly released book telling her life story.
The book, “From The Plantation To My Purpose: The Catherine Hawkins Story,” details Hawkins’ reflections on her upbringing in rural Mississippi and her journey in life building a relationship with God.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
