Mitchell chosen as board president

Leflore County District 4 Supervisor Eric Mitchell has been chosen as the board’s president.
The board unanimously voted for Mitchell for the head position, with District 5’s Robert Collins moving to vice president. Collins had been the board’s president for the previous two years.

Erica Dent has always been connected to her hometown library.
A self-proclaimed “library kid,” Dent would visit often to read books that caught her eye and have fun in the play area. She continues to take those trips into adulthood as she got to know some of the staff members.

2 honored by UM law school

Two alumni of the University of Mississippi School of Law who are well known in Leflore County are among five attorneys recently inducted into the school’s Alumni Hall of Fame.
They are retired Leflore County Circuit Judge Betty W. Sanders of Greenwood and William C. “Cham” Trotter of Belzoni.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
