Kelsey Hurt enjoys interacting with the customers at Zoe Coffee Co.
She’s worked at the new downtown Greenwood coffee shop since it opened in June. The 19-year-old has been crafting specialty coffee drinks and working at the register several days a week throughout the summer.

Que on the Yazoo: Good BBQ requires timing, one cook says

Que on the Yazoo, Greenwood’s annual barbecue competition sanctioned by the Memphis Barbecue Network, is officially underway.
Food trucks were set up noon Friday to kick off the festivities while barbecue competitors were busy preparing pork for Saturday’s judges.

Mississippi Delta Community College has purchased the former Malouf Furniture and Interiors building on U.S. 82. The building will soon be the home of MDCC's Greenwood Center.

MDCC purchases permanent location for Greenwood branch

Mississippi Delta Community College’s Greenwood Center has a new home.
MDCC announced Thursday in a press release that it has purchased a new permanent location for its Greenwood Center, “securing a long-term presence in Leflore County and reaffirming its commitment to the Delta.”

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
