Valley men, women lose close games

The Mississippi Valley State University men’s and women’s basketball teams came oh-so close to knocking off Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
The Delta Devils hung with the Golden Lions to the very end, as UAPB claimed a 78-70 win to improve to 8-13 overall and 5-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Mr. Tate, 76, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, at his residence.
He was a retired oil mill worker.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Evangelist Geneva Davis will officiate at the services.

Accountant: City finances in 'OK shape’

Greenwood is in “OK shape from a financial standpoint,” according to an audit of the city’s finances from the 2024 fiscal year, an accountant told the Greenwood City Council on Tuesday.
Lance Mohamed of Fred T. Neely and Co. reviewed the audit with council members.
