Blood Moon

Late Monday afternoon, folks were noticing an extra large white moon as it rose over the skyline before sunset. Tuesday morning, early risers were watching a moon of a different color, a rusty red. The Blood Moon’s color was created when the earth’s shadow fell across the moon’s surface.

Bulldogs come up short versus Gators

JACKSON — Greenwood High School had its chances to stay on track for another state title but fell short in the end, losing 50-42 to Leake Central here Tuesday in the MHSAA State 4A semifinals at the Mississippi Coliseum.
GHS trailed the entire game but was always within striking distance.

Lady Mustangs squash Lee, 17-0

The Pillow Academy girls soccer team cruised to a 17-0 win over Lee Academy Monday in Clarksdale.
Riley Coleman led the way with three goals, and Emma Beckwith, Sara Kinley Covington, Ann Hollis Hawkins, Mary Laine Dyksterhouse and Hadleigh Conner had two goals each.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
