Carroll Academy snapped a three-game skid with a 26-3 win over Indianola Academy Friday night in Indianola.
The Rebels improve to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in District 2-4A. IA falls to 2-4 and 0-2.
“We played pretty good, but we just shot ourselves in spots,” said CA head coach Bo Milton. “We kept plugging away. We mixed it up a little more on offense with the run and the pass. Brennan (Blaylock) had his best game of the year throwing the ball.”
Mathis Beck led the defense with eight tackles and two sacks. Noah Beck and Lofton Holly had seven tackles each with Noah Beck picking off a pass. Mason McCluskey had three tackles and returned a fumble for a touchdown.
Carroll will celebrate homecoming next week at it entertains Tri-County Academy.
-Jackson Academy 42, Pillow Academy 28 — The Mustangs came up on the short end of a high-scoring affair as the Raiders won by two scores Friday night in Jackson.
Both teams scored two touchdowns apiece in the first frame for a 14-14 tie. JA tacked on two more scores in the second for as 28-14 lead at the half. The Raiders led 35-21 headed to the fourth. Pillow got to within seven at 35-28, but JA drove right down the field to score.
Pillow senior running back Dayne Sanford was the workhorse for the Mustangs as he had 27 carries and 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Sanford also had two receptions for 56 yards.
An area that hurt Pillow was in the passing game. Drew Lamb completed only 4-of-19 passes for 84 yards with one score.
John Heston Powers had one grab for 23 yards, a pass thrown by Sanford. Jack Kirk had one catch for 18 yards, and JC Garrard one grab for 10 yards.
Powers led the Pillow defense with 10 total tackles. Tate DuBard and Drake Alderman had seven stops each, and Andrew Brock finished with five tackles.
Pillow returns home next week to face District 1-5A foe Bayou Academy.
