The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District’s Mass Choir is scheduled to begin fundraising for a trip later in the year to Orlando, Florida, for a competition.
Superintendent James Johnson-Waldington said at a work session of the school board that he thinks the choir is “not just ready to go but ready to win.”
He said there have been few weekends in which the choir hasn’t been traveling to different churches and schools to perform and compete.
Students from the Leflore County Junior High School boys basketball team and coaches will also have a chance to be honored during next Tuesday’s board meeting.
The team made it to the final championship game sponsored by the Mississippi High School Activities Association but lost to Booneville Middle School in overtime.
“I’m really proud of those young people,” Superintendent James Johnson-Waldington said.
The board also discussed submitting a letter to the Leflore County Board of Supervisors requesting help with milling, leveling, grading and replacing a culvert at the district bus shop, milling and leveling at Amanda Elzy High School and asphalt work at the technical services building.
Also discussed as items up for approval during Tuesday’s regular board meeting were the supplements for coaches within the district, a Special Olympics basketball tournament to be held at Mississippi Valley State University and an audit to cover the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
