Pillow Academy’s girls fast-pitch softball team outhit visiting Starkville Academy 13-4 en route to a 7-2 District 1-5A win Thursday at Robertson Field.
Three players collected three hits apiece. Senior Madeline Maddox, one of two seniors honored before the game, had two doubles and a single, scored two runs and drove in three runs for the Lady Mustangs.
Addison Weems had three singles and scored twice, and JB Garrett had three singles and scored a run. Senior Holly Whitfield had a single, double and scored two runs, and Emma Claire Tanner had a double. Rivers Carroll had a single, and Anna Grace Rice drove in two runs.
Pillow scored four runs in the third and three in the sixth. Starkville scored both of its runs in the top of the first.
Garrett started on the mound, getting just one out in the first. She gave up both runs on two hits and three walks. Carroll relieved and went 62/3 innings to get the win. She allowed two hits and walked just one batter.
Pillow (13-9 overall, 2-6 in conference) plays host to Heritage Academy Saturday with the junior varsity game starting at noon. The two teams will play again Monday in Columbus.
Carroll Academy will finish a game delayed by weather with Central Holmes Monday.
