J.Z. George celebrated homecoming with a 20-8 win over visiting Holly Springs High School in North Carrollton Friday night.
The Jaguars (2-2 overall) trailed 8-0 after the first quarter but scored two touchdowns in the second period for a 12-8 lead at the half. J.Z. George tacked on one more TD in the third frame.
The defense did its job for the Jags as Alex Criss picked off a pass at the goal line and returned it 100 yards for a score. Also, Jordun Normal had an interception, and Keiyhaun Wilks and Da’Ravion Seals had eight tackles each.
Kendarius Head turned in a solid performance on offense as he rushed for 90 yards on 11 carries and had a 2-point conversion run. He also threw a 30-yard TD pass to D’Anthony McGlothan, and he had one catch for 20 yards.
McGlothan finished with 80 yards rushing and a score on 11 carries and two receptions for 50 yards, one for a score. He was 1-for-1 passing for 10 yards.
The Jaguars visit Elzy next week.
- Central Holmes 24, Delta Streets 6 — The Lions fell behind 8-0 after the first quarter and could never make up the difference as the Trojans prevailed Friday night in Lexington.
James Harris caught a touchdown pass from AJ McGhee for the lone DSA touchdown in the third period.
Central Holmes led 18-0 at the half and 18-6 after the third.
McGhee, Jalyn Lewis and Draper Aldridge led DSA (1-4) with eight tackles each.
- Greenville St. Joe 36, Carroll Academy 0 — The Rebels’ trek to Greenville didn’t go well as the Fighting Irish claimed the District 2-4A win.
Maddox Carpenter had eight tackles for the Rebels, and Mathis Beck and Mason McCluskey had six apiece.
Carroll (3-2 overall, 0-1 in district) will entertain league foe Indianola Academy next week. St. Joe moves to 2-0 in district action.
