Candidates for District 5 supervisor, tax collector speak

A candidate for District 5 supervisor in Leflore County says she is running to improve the district’s conditions.
Bertha M. Sparks, a Greenwood native, told the Greenwood Voters League on Wednesday that she was disappointed when she returned to her hometown to see the condition of the city and county.

Candidate for D3 supervisor says he's eligible

Timmy O’Bryant, who was disqualified from the race for Leflore County District 3 supervisor in 2019, is running again.
O’Bryant is running as an independent against incumbent Anjuan Brown, who successfully challenged O’Bryant’s eligibility for candidacy in 2019. He is Brown’s only challenger.

5 now seeking District 5 supervisor seat

The race for Leflore County Supervisor of District 5 is getting crowded.
Troy Brown Sr. announced his candidacy for the seat on Friday. Brown, 59, said in a release that he will run as an independent.

Hibbler to face Gary; Ware files to run again

Another candidate has submitted qualifying paperwork to run for Leflore County chancery clerk.
Debra Hibbler, who works as payroll administrator for Greenwood Leflore Hospital, is running as a Democrat against incumbent Johnny Gary Jr., also a Democrat. The two will meet in the Aug. 8 Democratic primary.
