Winona man charged in shooting is in Leflore jail

A Winona man is being held in the Leflore County Jail after being charged in a shooting in Winona on Friday.
Daniel Antquine Cordell Jr., 21, 411 South Union St., has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Bond has been set at $600,000.

A Greenwood man who authorities believe was involved in a shooting that killed a cousin and wounded a brother has been returned to Leflore County after he fled to Alabama.
Edward Bush Jr., 22, 101 Canary Cove, has been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
