Authorities have now charged two men who they believe got in a fight that resulted in a woman being shot in the head and hospitalized.
Police Chief Terrence Craft said Detavion Meeks, 24, 2190 County Road 165, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault.
Bond has been set at $25,000. Meeks remained in the Leflore County Jail on Monday.
Laderris West, 25, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
Craft said that the two men got into a fight after playing a video game about a month ago. He said West told Meeks the next time he saw him, they would fight. That next time was apparently at the America’s Best Value Inn and Suites on Jan. 3.
According to Craft, West approached Meeks wanting to fight, but Meeks didn’t give him the chance and pulled out a knife and began stabbing West.
Craft said West then went to retrieve his gun, chased after Meeks to a room and fired several shots. Meeks suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but a 24-year-old woman was shot in the head.
Craft said the woman remained at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson on Monday receiving treatment.
