A $1 fee for parking at ticketed events at the Leflore County Civic and Agri-Center arena was approved with little discussion at the Leflore County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday.
The vote was 3-1, with only District 5 Supervisor Larry "Kite" Johnson dissenting. District 1 Supervisor Phil Wolfe was absent.
Johnson objected to the fee because it applied only to events in the center's arena and not to those in the three smaller rooms in the building.
"If you're going to do it, why not across the board?" Johnson said.
Board president and District 2 Supervisor Robert Moore recommended that Johnson address the Civic and Agri-Center Board with that suggestion.
The parking fee proposed by the Civic Center's board was discussed at a board of supervisors meeting last Monday and tabled.
Chancery Clark Sam Abraham said he did not believe the center's board needed the supervisors' approval to change the center's policy.
Abraham believed the center's board wanted the board of supervisors' approval due to the controversy over a parking charge at the Millennium Blues Festival in March, when cars were charged $3 each to use the lot.
