JACKSON - No date has been set for the criminal trial of a Greenwood Public School Board member in Hinds County Circuit Court.
A clerk with the Hinds County Circuit Court said Monday a court date of November likely will be set soon.
Anjuan Brown of Greenwood was indicted in May on four counts of making fraudulent statements and representations. Brown is an employee of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, a school board member, and a member of the state Ethics Commission.
He surrendered voluntarily to special agents of the investigative division of the state Auditor's Office at the Hinds County Detention Center. Brown was released on $2,000 bond.
Lee Abraham Jr., a Greenwood attorney who represents Brown, declined to talk about his client's case Monday. Brown could not be reached for comment this morning.
Brown is accused of making fraudulent statements and representations to the Ethics Commission, the state Department of Health, the Greenwood Public Schools and the state Gaming Commission for a total of $6,428. Allegedly he sought reimbursement for mileage on a personal vehicle when actually he made the trips in a state-issued car.
The Audit Department has made a civil demand against Brown for $11,095, which includes interest and the costs of investigation.
