The wife of a Pillow Academy coach died in a four-wheeler accident Saturday night in Greenville.
Karen Jefcoat, 31, of 137 Wilmont Road, Greenville, and her husband Michael, 33, were riding their four-wheeler together along the levee when it apparently struck a pole, said Lt. Billy Barber of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
Michael Jefcoat, a native of Greenwood, graduated from Pillow. He is a coach and trainer at the academy. Karen Jefcoat has a stepbrother who resides in Greenwood. She taught in the Greenville Public Schools.
She died of trauma to the head, said Washington County Deputy Coroner Methel Johnson. The rough and rocky areas of the levee were a contributing factor of the accident, said Johnson.
Both were thrown from the four-wheeler. Michael Jefcoat got up and tried to get a response from his wife, but she was unresponsive.
Authorities from the sheriff's department were called to the scene of the accident.
A deputy sheriff tried to administer CPR, but Karen Jefcoat was still unresponsive. The Delta Regional Medical Center was called.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body will be taken to Mississippi Mortuary Services in Pearl for an autopsy today, said Johnson.
Michael Jefcoat was taken to the medical center, where he was treated and released.
