The 7-month-old daughter of a Teoc couple died Wednesday at University Medical Center in Jackson from injuries suffered in a one-car accident on Valley Road in Carroll County the previous day.
Services for Hannah Nicole Blount will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home.
The baby was secured in a child-restraint seat in a car driven by her mother, Denise Blount, Tuesday when a dog chased a deer into their path, Carroll County Coroner Bill Lord said. In the mother's attempt to dodge the deer, the car left the road and landed in a ditch.
"The baby was in the car seat and restrained, but the seat broke and the baby received head trauma," Lord said.
Lord's investigation was still incomplete this morning.
A passerby drove the baby and her mother to Greenwood Leflore Hospital. The child was transported by helicopter to UMC, where she was placed in the critical care unit of the Pediatrics Department.
Hannah's parents are Brad and Denise Blount of Teoc, and her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ron Upchurch of Teoc and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Blount of Carrollton.
