Harris, a former Delta State University great and Hall of Famer, was a third-team selection. She’s joined on that unit by Lynette Woodard of Kansas, Ann Meyers Drysdale of UCLA, Seimone Augustus of LSU and Clarissa Davis of Texas.

Leflore County jobless rate rises to 5.6%

Leflore County’s unemployment rate rose in January to 5.6%, according to figures released Tuesday by the Mississippi Department of Employment Secur-ity.
Despite the increase from December’s 5.1% figure, it would appear to be lower than the January 2025 rate of 6%.

Manager chosen for construction of new school

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board has approved the hiring of a project manager to oversee the construction of the district’s new high school.

Dale Partners Architects, a firm with offices in Jackson and Biloxi, was unanimously approved during Tuesday’s board meeting.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
