Valley men stung by Hornets

The hard times continued for the Mississippi Valley State men’s basketball team, as they dropped a 92-65 decision at Alabama State Monday night in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Hornets (9-17, 6-7) led 42-25 at the half and outscored Valley 50-30 in the second half.

Senior Jeremiah Kendrick exploded for a season-high 33 points in leading the Greenwood High boys basketball team to a 72-51 win at Ripley High School in the first round of the North 4A Tournament Tuesday night.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
