Services for McQuire Griggs of Itta Bena will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Steadfast Church of God in Christ.

Mr. Griggs, 59, died Friday, March 27, 2026, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Century Funeral Home.

Pastor Annie Dixon will officiate at the services.

Leflore girls race to first at region meet

Manager chosen for construction of new school

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board has approved the hiring of a project manager to oversee the construction of the district’s new high school.

Dale Partners Architects, a firm with offices in Jackson and Biloxi, was unanimously approved during Tuesday’s board meeting.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
