Has anyone else noticed the rapidly growing litter problem?

Take time to notice. Take a ride down the frontage road from Taco Bell to Walmart, and pay attention to the area between U.S. Highway 82 and the frontage road. Then cross and come down the frontage road at Tractor Supply to the Waffle House.

Stop loud cars

I wish the Commonwealth would ask the Greenwood Chief of Police and the Leflore County Sheriff why nothing is being done to stop the loud vehicles speeding and street racing on Grand Boulevard and other main streets in the city and just outside the city limits, especially the Viking connector road to Mississippi Highway 7.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
