Jackie Liddell has lived in Greenwood her entire life.
“It’s home,” she said, shrugging.
Liddell works the front desk at The Alluvian, and her job allows her to bring that sense of home to those coming through the area.
She said the most interesting part of her job is meeting new people. “You learn different things from people that come from different places, like their cultures. It’s not always people from around here.”
The guestbook at Liddell’s desk includes a recent entry from a guest from England.
Other guests she has welcomed to the Delta came from Australia, Greece and elsewhere.
“I do have the desire to go certain places,” Liddell explained, concentrating on her thought. “I’m not big on traveling; I’ll travel a little bit. It probably would be just as interesting going to different places, too, but I’m close to home, close-knit, and I don’t mind being here with family and friends.”
She enjoys being a face of Greenwood.
“I do like it, being up here and telling people about the things that are around.”
She said one of the more difficult parts of her job, which she has held for three years, is keeping up with the communication demands of the desk.
“Sometimes I’ll be standing here, and the phone will just be ringing and ringing,” she said, “but they told me when I started, the customer at the desk comes first.”
Prior to working with The Alluvian, Liddell worked as a school secretary.
When she’s not working, she enjoys shopping. “Of course, you know, we don’t have a lot of places to shop, so if I have to go a little farther. It doesn’t matter — just getting away.”
She has two grown children — one in Dallas, whom she visits often, and one in Greenwood. She also has a teenage granddaughter.
She’s coming up on 30-plus years of marriage with her husband, who is also from Greenwood
